Let me show you what I created. I really hope you like them!

Card 1:

I began by cutting a yellow cardstock panel from my stash to A2 size then a navy panel just 1/8 inch smaller to layer ontop. I then added gold splatters to the background for an artsy look. I then used my yellow alcohol panel to die cut the flowers and leaves from the Floral Doodles Die Set. The sentiment is cut from the Essential Sentiments Die Set

These are the panels I created using the alcohol inks before die cutting the images from them. So quick and easy to do – AND LOTS OF FUN TOO!

Card 2:

For this card, I used a large wide flat paint brush to add a wash of colour to the panel using just 3 colours from Lapis Lazuli, Fall Harvest and Firebrick to create a rainbow across the panel. By overlapping the colours I created 2 new colours of orange and green. I then die cut a panel from Tangled Loops Cover Die using Brushed Gold Metallic Cardstock. A sentiment in black for contrast was stamped and die cut from One Go Birthday Greetings Stamp and Die Set

Card 3:

I used all 4 colours in the Lapis Lazuli to colour a panel then when it was almost dry and there were still sticky lines where inks meet I rubbed on some gold tonor foil from my stash to add some organic specks and streaks of gold shimmer. I just love this look. It was mounted onto an A2 mottled silver cardstock from my stash.

Card 4:

The Fall Harvest Panel was then used to Hot Foil the Gilded Rose Hot Foil Plate using silver hot foil. I felt that this large rose is enough and the design was gorgeous just as is once the sentiment was added.

Card 5:

Another rainbow background created using the same blue and yellow ink sets and slanting the paper in a few different directions to get the inks to mix a bit. I then used Exquisite Marble Hot Foil Plate to add the stunning marble effect to the panel. I think the foiling just steps it up a notch.

Card 6:

For my final card, I added the Chevron Background Hot Foil Plate to the alcohol inked background panel, matted it with black cardstock for a striking contrast and then die cut the script Thinking of You die in black to give a cohesive look to this simple card. A few gold gems were added for even more shine and glitz.

Thanks Gail. It’s so easy to make a stash of these backgrounds because once you start, you cannot stop!!!

You made beautiful alcohol ink backgrounds! I LOVE the colors!!! I love the flower one!

  2. Did you use the gold alcohol ink on the gold paper for the flowers and green inks on green paper?

  3. OMG Annemarie…ALL your alcohol ink cards are Stunning examples of a variety of alcohol ink techniques. I can not possibly chose a favorite. Thank you so much for sharing all your beauties. Hugs…Nancy

  4. Wow, so many beautiful designs. I honestly don’t know which one I like best. The rainbow card was so unique! I’ve never seen alcohol inks used with a brush. Great idea!

FOh Wow! Your cards are spectacular! My favorites are card 5, 2 and
3! I love how you add the bits of gold to them! I especially like the 2nd rainbow card– it has a wonderful masculine vibe to it, imo! I always need
ideas for cards for the men in our family. I’m loving this hop! Thank you for the creativity shared!

  5. Wow! So. Inch to like! I love the foiling on top! I also love the idea of using a paintbrush to apply them! So different to how I have typically seen them used!

  6. June from Minnesota, USA

Card #5 just BLEW ME AWAY! I am going to try slanting the card stock and to let the alcohol “do its thing”. I never thought to hot foil over the alcohol ink. The result is GORGEOUS!

  7. Wow, wow, wow…you’ve been very busy!! I love all of these and my favorites are the two rainbow cards!

  8. Your cards are so awesome. I kept thinking this is my favorite then I would see the next card and it would be my favorite and so on. Loved the hot foiling on them too!!! Thanks.

  9. Veronica L Hunt

I myself have a hard time using ink for backgrounds. I love these and hope to do it myself one day.

    1. Annemarie Caister

It’s much easier than you think! Don’t be afraid to give it a go. Just buy 2 or 3 colours to start with and play! You will get hooked!

Thank you Vickie. I used a new paper from Crafty Critta who are in Australia. I follow Nancy Stamps on YouTube (she’s in the USA) and she recommended it so I decided to buy some to try as I’m in New Zealand. It is incredible and foils so well and is also perfect for alcohol inks. Of course, the usual Yupo paper is also excellent for this if that is easier for you to come by.

  10. I love that you showed that you don’t have to use Yupo paper with Alcohol inks to get amazing results. The foiling really does set the ink colours off beautifully.

  11. From another Anne Marie … I love all these and you really die an awesome job! I usually go for my Yupo paper when I use these inks, now I am learning new things. TFS

  12. Your creations are gorgeous, everyone! I don’t have a favorite, as they are ALL my favorites, each unique and intriguing.
